Barnardo’s Scotland has been working in Scotland for more than a century. Our purpose is to reach out to the most disadvantaged children, young people, families and communities to help ensure that every child has the best possible start in life. We aim to make sure that every young person is able to reach their full potential, whatever their circumstances in life.
Today we run more than 130 community-based services across Scotland including:
HMP Edinburgh Prison Visitor Centre...
The centre is delivered by Barnardo’s in partnership with Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service.
Barnardo's Visitor centre supports families who attend HMP Edinburgh.
The visitor centre aims to:
- Improve the visiting experience for people visiting their family member or loved one in prison by providing facilities and refreshments;
- Provide families access to independent and impartial advice, information, and support; and voice the needs of families affected by imprisonment to the prison service.
Barnardo's is one of the few organisations to help children with a parent in prison. We run training services for professionals as well as services in the community and in prisons to help maintain contact and support family relationships.
The Visitors Centre is operated by Barnardos as a not for profit service, which is independent of the prison.
The centre is managed by friendly, professional staff who provide a welcoming, family friendly area which can offer information, support or help to families visiting the prison.
