The Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve is an area of natural beauty in Edinburgh, Scotland, managed by the City of Edinburgh Ranger Service.
The objectives of the Friends of the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill are:
- To conserve and enhance the landscape, biodiversity and sustainable use of the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve.
- To engage and involve the local community in environmental issues and action, through information exchange, education and practical activities.
Visitors...
Visitors are very welcome in the Reserve, but in the interests of wildlife and other visitors please observe the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. In particular:
- Please keep your dogs under control and clean up after them
- Please do not overfeed the birds and take your litter away with you
Hermitage House...
Hermitage House was designed by the famous Scots architect Robert Burn and built in 1785. The style reflects the old Braid Castle thought to have been in what is now known as Midmar Paddock at the end of Hermitage Drive.
The House includes a Visitor Centre where you can buy maps for the orienteering course.
Forestry and Natural Heritage is also based in Hermitage House, call 0131 529 2401.
The reserve also offer a Walled Garden, Doocot, Royal Observatory, Agassiz's Rock and Wildflower Meadow.
