DESCRIPTION
Portobello and Joppa Parish Church is a part of the Church of Scotland in the Presbytery of Edinburgh. You can find us at Brunstane Road North in Joppa, Portobello, about fifteen minutes drive from Edinburgh city centre.
After years of discussion and planning, conversations of hopes and dreams, the congregations of Portobello Old, St. James’ and St. Philip’s have formed one new entity focused on the sanctuary on Abercorn Terrace. It is a joining together of different histories and different traditions, but it is a union based first and foremost on our faith in the God of love revealed in Christ, who continues to speak to us and lead us through the promptings of the Spirit of truth and grace.
This grounding for our union is the grounding too of all we do. We provide traditional, contemplative and family worship. We gather to discuss. We gather to socialise. We gather together to reach out and serve the community and those who are truly in need. We provide space so that many organisations in our community can create and nurture the bonds of friendship and fellowship. Hospitality is said to be the 11th commandment and it infuses our Christian life.
