Are you a carer or a former carer who enjoys walking and socialising with like-minded individuals? Then come walk with us! It is an opportunity for carers to get outside, improve their well-being and connect with other carers in the community. Keith is a Carer and a life-long Rambler who urges all other carers to take some time to look after themselves. He decided to combine his passion for walking with his desire to support other carers and start a Carers Walking Group.
The walking group will meet 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month at 10:00am at Currie Library car park (210 Lanark Road West, Currie, EH14 5NX). We will explore different destinations and the pace and terrain will be accommodated to meet the needs of all who are participating.
An example of how a walk will look like:
Meet at Currie at 9.45am to start at 10:00am. Walk along water of Leith to the Mill Café, have a cup of tea and a chat and walk back to Currie.
Departure 10:00am with typical duration 2-3 hours.
Below is the recommended clothing and equipment to bring to our walks.
- Walking boots or shoes with good tread
- Warm socks
- Fleece or warm jumper
- Hat and gloves
- Small backpack, to keep hands free
- Refreshments – drinks and snacks
Walking improves a person’s physical as well as mental health. From reducing stress, to keeping fit, to sharing laughs, this walking group has something for everyone.
