When your dog suffers injury or illness, it can be incredibly worrying for you and painful for your pet. Knowing what to do for them in these moments of crisis can save you valuable time and expense, and may even save their life.

Like human first aid, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home’s Dog First Aid course prepares you so you can provide emergency first aid in the event of an incident. The course will also show you you how to check over your dog that will help you decide on when a trip to the vet is necessary. These courses are ideal for all dog owners as well as dog trainers and behaviourists, and will provide you with knowledge that will help you keep your dog safe.

Our Courses:

Emergency Dog First Aid course (3 hour course)...

Our Emergency Dog First Aid course is 3 hours and includes practical guidance and techniques. The course will cover:

- How to perform weekly health checks
- How to check vital signs
- Causes and phases of shock
- Performing bandaging
- Putting your dog in the recovery position
- Using different restraints and muzzles
- Emergency breaths and CPR
- What to do if your dog is choking
- Using a Dog 1st Aid kit

Full Dog First Aid qualification (6 hour course)...

Our Full Dog First Aid Qualification includes our 3 hour Emergency Dog First Aid course with an additional 3 hours of learning focusing on the following:

- Blood loss scenarios
- Fractures
- Head & spinal injuries
- Medical conditions such as seizures
- Environmental concerns, lungworm and Alabama foot rot
- What to do if a dog has a bite and sting
- Various methods of carries
- Poisoning
- Heat & Heatstroke
- Hypothermia
- Diet & nutrition

This qualification is ideal for dog trainers, behaviourists or dog owners to ensure they have understanding of a wide range of potential hazards.

All of our courses are delivered by fully qualified and registered trainers.

This is a first aid course to help owners and dog professionals better manage situations and understand warning signs, this is in no way a substitute for veterinary care.
