The EVOC Red Book

The online directory to find third sector Organisations, and their services across Edinburgh

Directory of local groups/projects who are offering specific support during the current COVID-19 pandemic »

In line with Government advice, most groups and organisations in the city have had to take the unfortunate decision to suspend face to face and group work activities. Please telephone or email the contacts listed for the group or organisation if you are interested in their work to check what alternative arrangements might be available or to find out about alternative groups or services in your area.

Parkinson’s UK Edinburgh Branch has a weekly exercise class at the Thistle Foundation for people with Parkinson’s and it runs throughout much of the year.

The session is facilitator-led beginning with warm-up exercises. Then follows a variety of activities aimed at helping co-ordination and mobility and may involve use of various facilities within the Thistle complex. Finally, a little mindfulness and meditation is used to help focus thoughts on the ‘here and now’ helping individuals to feel in charge and in control. Participants can be seated when the need arises. The benefits are not just physical, the group support and sociability have a significant positive influence.

These sessions run on Mondays from 10:30am till 12:15pm.

The contribution towards class costs is £2.50 per session bookable in a block, the length of which varies from term to term but the total for any block is based on £2.50 per session. To find out more including specific dates for the blocks please contact Chris Davies, Health & Wellbeing Practitioner at Thistle Foundation.
