PEER INSPIRATION

Fast Forward facilitates PIPS, Peer Inspiration Projects Scotland. PIPS specialises in establishing, sustaining and expanding peer education projects all across Scotland.

PIPS, a group of peer education charities and projects who work with young people and families on all kinds of issues from sexual health and online safety to substance misuse.

We help establish, grow and sustain peer education projects across Scotland. Our members are based from Edinburgh to Shetland, and everywhere in between. Our dedicated PIPS Officer provides members with toolkits and resources, training, free consultations and advice. We also organise educational events and networking meetings throughout the year. We would love to have you along.

For further information, please see https://www.fastforward.org.uk/pips.

PEER EDUCATION

Peer education is based on the belief that young people learn effectively when the message is given by other young people. This way of working is also beneficial to the personal and social development of the peer educator.

It is also often used with topics that cay be difficult to approach. Sexual health, substance misuse, alcohol, bullying and other sensitive issues are approached from a young person’s perspective.

With training, peer educators develop the confidence, skills and knowledge to deliver a workshop or educational session. The process involves personal development, boosting self-esteem and gaining new skills that can be transferred to future work or training. Peer educators gain confidence by delivering and shadowing sessions with Fast Forward staff.

VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers have played a key role in shaping and developing Fast Forward since 1987.

Our Shadow Board of young people, aged 16-24, ensures that our work remains relevant and credible, focussing on the most important issues facing Scottish children and young people.

Our Board of Trustees is made up of adult volunteers, who give their time, bring their skills, and experience to the governance of Fast Forward.

If you are interested in joining either the Shadow Board or the Board of Trustees, please contact our CEO, Allie Cherry-Byrnes, on allie@fastforward.org.uk
