Fast Forward’s tobacco education is funded by and delivered in partnership with NHS Lothian Health Promotion Service.

Our tobacco education programme engages Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as the youthwork sector, in Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian. The programme raises young people’s awareness of tobacco, reduces young people’s exposure to second-hand smoke (or ‘passive smoking’) and discourages young people from taking up smoking.

Fast Forward’s work with Primary Schools also discourages individuals from smoking near the school, through the Smoke Free School Gates project.

Our work with Secondary Schools focuses on implementing their Smoke-Free School policies and working towards a smoke-free campus.

Our work with the youthwork sector supports organisations to integrate tobacco education into their programmes, thereby raising young people’s awareness of the topic. We also support discussions around e-cigarettes, cannabis and smoking cessation.

We are expanding our tobacco education work through the CHOOSE IT, OWN IT, SHARE IT project. This exciting project works across the four Lothian local authority areas, building on the findings of the Tobacco Prevention Research report on care experienced young people and young people affected by homelessness.

We will continue to deliver tobacco prevention education, engaging with children and young people in looked-after accommodation or with experience of homelessness.

Our sessions will enable young people to be:

Effective Contributors – individuals gain ownership of the project as they work together to make decision in relation to taking the project forward.
Responsible Citizens – young people work collaboratively to make decisions in relation to the project.
Confident Individuals – young people provided with the opportunity to have their voice heard by sharing their experiences with their peers.
Successful Learners – young people encouraging to participate in various session whilst developing their skills where necessary.

If you are interested in Tobacco Education Sessions for the young people you work with, or if you would like your organisation to be involved in our CHOOSE IT, OWN IT, SHARE IT project, please get in touch with Laura at laura@fastforward.org.uk for a chat.
