Within our all year round residential education service, we offer a twenty-four hour curriculum, with our highly integrated Education and Care teams providing rich opportunities for children age 5 - 14 years old to learn and grow within and beyond the classroom.
Over the time they are with us, our aim is to work with children in a highly therapeutic and nurturing way, to build on their strengths and develop the skills, resilience and behaviours to be able to return to the community. For children who are unable to return to a family base, we are equally committed to working with parents, carers and professionals, to ensure that they move on to a quality residential education resource, which is right for them and suits their needs best.
Within the grounds of Harmeny, we have five residential cottages, Holly, Hawthorn, Laurel, Eason and Caroline, and can accommodate up to thirty children. All have individual bedrooms for each child, a lounge, kitchen, dining area, play areas, bathroom / shower rooms, and a staff sleepover room. Each cottage has a wide range of toys and games to suit all ages, including a television and a range of DVDs, a laptop, books, jigsaws, board games, arts and craft materials, and a well equipped kitchen for preparing snacks or meals. All cottages have a garden with play equipment and vegetable patches, which the children help maintain. Wemyss Cottage, our day centre, is similarly resourced to our five residential cottages.
Children and care staff have all their meals together in their cottage, and there is a strong emphasis on healthy eating and positive behaviours at meal times. Children are also supported to develop their independence skills, through choosing menus, keeping their rooms tidy and helping with light domestic tasks.
All our cottages are decorated to a very high standard, with our Estate and Domestic Teams working closely with care staff to ensure they are also maintained to a very high standard, thus ensuring a homely, comfortable, safe and secure care environment for children.
