Directory of local groups/projects who are offering specific support during the current COVID-19 pandemic »

In line with Government advice, most groups and organisations in the city have had to take the unfortunate decision to suspend face to face and group work activities. Please telephone or email the contacts listed for the group or organisation if you are interested in their work to check what alternative arrangements might be available or to find out about alternative groups or services in your area.

Details
RNIB Scotland's Education and Family Services works with children and their families from the point of diagnosis, on through the young person's school, college and university education. They also support the Haggeye youth forum.

We support children and young people with sight problems, their families and carers, and the professionals who support them, from the point of diagnosis through to school, college and university education.

How we can help
Our Education and Family Services team offers help with the following:

- Advice to parents, home-visits, family group events, and information on local and national support networks
- Assisting parents express their views and rights to education, health and social work professionals
- Advice and support to post-16 students, including information on courses, colleges and universities and the Disabled Student Allowance
ensuring the interests of children and young people with sight loss are considered when policy and legislation is being made.

Publications
For further information, ‘Our Services for Children and Young People’ booklet is available online on our Reports and Publications page. This booklet is also available in audio and braille formats.

Our comprehensive guide for the parents of children and young people with sight loss, 'Sharing Your Journey', is also available on our Reports and Publications page. Both publications are available in audio and braille as well as hard copy.

Training and events
We can also provide a range of training courses for parents and education, health and social work professionals, including hands-on training on the most up-to-date technological aids available.

Trying out technology
Our Technology Education Loan Library (TELL) initiative offers a range of aids and equipments to help school pupils with sight loss in Scotland. Schools can borrow these free of charge for up to six weeks.

Our Haggeye youth forum
Haggeye brings together young people aged 12 to 25 from across Scotland with sight loss. Its members campaign for accessible services, facilities and opportunities, as well as taking part in social events.
