UNDERSTANDING UNDER THREES

This three-week course looks at how children develop in their first three years. You will also learn about the bond of attachment and how responsive carers meet babies’ needs. You will also find out about the value of play in the lives of young children.

Who is this Course for?
Mums, dads, grandparents and carers of young children who would like to understand their role in their child’s life. People who would like to find out more about the development of young children. Anyone interested in working with young children will also benefit from this course.

How will you support me?
We’ve written our course notes to make them clearer for people with language or reading needs. Our training support worker can also help you.

How much will it cost?
£40/£10* for a three week course (*The lower cost is for people who receive eligible benefits)

CHILD SAFETY

This short course looks at how important safety is at various stages in your child’s development. You will become more aware of the common causes of accidents in the home. You will also learn the practical steps you can take to avoid accidents.

Who is this Course for?
Anyone who looks after or works with children, particularly at home, such as mums, dads, grandparents, carers and childminders.

How will you support me?
If you have language or reading needs, our training support worker can help you.

How much will it cost?
£40/£10* for a two week course (*The lower cost is for people who receive eligible benefits)

STORYTELLING

This short course explores traditional stories and stories by modern authors and illustrators. Students will be invited to share the stories they remember from childhood. Nursery rhymes and story games will be discussed as these bring storytelling to life. There will also be an opportunity for you to make simple finger puppets. The course as a whole shows the ways that books and storytelling help young children with speech and language development. Stories are also told through music and there will be input on musical activities. A fun and engaging course where you can learn a bit about Scottish culture and share your own!

This course is for those who are interested in telling and reading stories to children, at home or in a childcare setting.
