Big Hearts is teaming up with the Hibernian Community Foundation to build on the success of SAMH The Changing Room project by offering a similar wellbeing initiative aimed at young women.
The Changing Room Project for Young Women has one goal – bring people together through the power of football in order to help them take care of their mental health.
Open to women aged 18 to 30, the programme offers participants opportunities to meet up, engage in social & physical activities together and start positive conversations about their mental health and wellbeing.
In 2018, Big Hearts, alongside Hibernian Community Foundation were the first football organisations in Scotland delivering The Changing Room initiative for men, saving hundreds of lives.
In 2022, Big Hearts is delivering a new 12-month pilot programme aimed at young women in partnership with the Hibernian Community Foundation.
Why Young Women aged 18 to 30?
- Women between the ages of 16 and 24 are almost three times as likely to experience a common mental health issue, as males of the same age.
- 1 in 2 females will stop taking part in any organised physical activity by the age of 20.
- Around 1 in 5 women have a common mental health problem such as anxiety or depression.
The group is running online and new participants are welcome.
