Please telephone or email the contacts listed for the group or organisation if you are interested in their work to check what alternative arrangements might be available or to find out about alternative groups or services in your area.

Our training is delivered by a skilled, expert team, passionate about getting Scotland walking.
Since 2002, we've trained over 10,000 volunteer Walk Leaders across Scotland. Without their dedication and enthusiasm, our Health Walk network would not be where it is today. If you're interested in getting involved, contact the Health Walk project in your area.

We offer a range of training courses for people interested in improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland through walking.

Health Walk Leader Training

A one day course to enable volunteers to lead safe and effective Health Walks in a community setting as part of a Health Walk project. This course can be delivered for groups of up to 20 volunteers.

Refresher Walk Leader Training

A half-day workshop for Volunteer Walk Leaders who trained more than 2 years ago. The workshop will refresh the key elements of leading a community Health Walk, introduce new ideas and update your knowledge of physical activity evidence. It also gives the opportunity to meet other Walk Leaders to share ideas and experience.

Strength and Balance Training for Walk Leaders

This half day workshop will explain why regular walking plus strength and balance exercises provide the key to active older age. Walk Leaders will learn how to do simple exercises which help to promote independence and reduce the risk of falls. These exercises can then be incorporated into health walks. Each delegate will receive a set of cue cards and 5 leaflets.

Strength and Balance Training for Care Staff

A half day workshop for people working with older adults in care settings to learn how to encourage mobility and activity, reduce sedentary behaviour and build strength & balance exercises into daily care. Each delegate will receive a set of cue cards and 5 leaflets.

Inclusion Training

An interactive and practical 4 hour workshop for Walk Leaders and staff/volunteers leading outdoor activities. It builds on existing knowledge and experience and increases confidence in supporting the inclusion of disabled people in health walks and low level outdoor activities. The course is delivered by expert trainers from Scottish Disability Sport.

Safety Outdoors Training

This is an interactive and practical one day course for Walk Leaders which builds on existing knowledge and experience and will increase confidence in risk assessment, route planning and emergency action.
