LOVE Gorgie Farm is involved in many initiatives for armed forces veterans and has been a great community asset allowing people to experience nature within the city of Edinburgh for over forty years.
Due to COVID-19, our Veteran Weekly Support Group has currently been paused. However, we are still running our employability programmes and the Veterans Vocational Care Pathway with sister charity LOVE Learning, focused programme for veterans transitioning from the armed services into employment.
VETERAN WEEKLY SUPPORT GROUP
We have recently started weekly support group that provides veterans a place to meet with their peers and socialise, whilst getting involved on the farm.
Our programme offers the following:
- A safe meeting place for veterans to attend and socialise
- Volunteering opportunities at the farm
- Be involved in various projects/renovations/small building projects at the farm
- Access to the Veterans Vocational Care Pathway and Modern Apprenticeships within the care sector with charity LOVE Learning and our associated partners
- Training and employment
- Free access to our computer suite, CV advice and IT training
- Outings and activities
If you are a veteran and would like to find out about opportunities to get involved at the farm, we would love to hear from you.
VETERAN VOCATIONAL CARE PATHWAY
Who better to work with veterans… than veterans themselves.
Our Veteran Vocational Care Pathway is a focused programme for veterans transitioning from the armed services into employment.
LOVE Gorgie Farm, as well as our associated partners the LOVE Group, recognise the additional employment challenges faced by veterans in Scotland. The LOVE Group has worked to develop a range of accredited qualifications and training to help veterans during their transition phase to improve their employability prospects.
Through this programme, veterans will undertake an SVQ life-skills training programme, modern apprenticeship and get SQA accredited qualifications free of cost to build a career within the care sector.
Please see our leaflet at https://www.lovegorgiefarm.org.uk/programmes/veteran-group for more information.
