Volunteer with us...

We are now recruiting for Volunteer Advisers.

For detailed information, please download and carefully consider our Information Pack at https://www.citizensadviceedinburgh.org.uk/volunteering.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our charity. In 2020, despite the COVID-19 restrictions, our volunteers supported over 10,000 local citizens in need of advice and support. Over 90% of Citizens Advice Edinburgh workers are trained volunteers. As members of the community themselves, our volunteers understand local needs and promote fair and accessible services.

Our aim is to recruit volunteers that represent the community we serve. As a result, in this round of recruitment, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from people who are in receipt of welfare benefits and people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. Citizens from these groups need advice at a disproportionate level to others in our community. We would like to encourage more volunteers from these communities to join us and help us to support fellow citizens in need of independent and impartial advice.

Many people have found that their training and experience with CAE has been instrumental in finding paid employment or changing career. Our volunteers are recruited from all age groups, backgrounds, and communities. We aim to have a volunteer population that reflects the communities we serve. We are proud to be an equal opportunities organization and we aim to attract volunteers that represent the community.

Applicants who aren't UK citizens: please note that you are only allowed to volunteer if your immigration status permits it. Many will, but please do check that you are entitled to volunteer, to avoid breaching the terms of your status. You can find further information about different visa rules on this government webpage. We can also offer confidential immigration advice out with and independent of your application. Irish citizens, EU/EEA citizens with settled or pre-settled status, and refugees and asylum seekers are fully entitled to volunteer.

Citizens Advice Edinburgh is unable to sponsor individuals under the Tier 5 Charity Worker visa.
