As an innovator, Milan was able to pilot a carer’s group with the help of Creative Breaks funding. The aim was to create a platform for unpaid carer’s to come and gather in a safe, relaxed, and supportive environment where they could share common issues around the pressures and demands of caring roles and the effect this can have on their own health and well being.
The group has now been running successfully for over five years and through the work we deliver our group members have increased to more than double from when we first started off. We ensure we can offer and support carer’s a programme and support around their choices and needs.
The work we do is to:
- To provide a safe supportive environment
- Address carers needs with other service providers.
- Provide advice/information on issues effecting carers and promote income maximisation
- Deliver regular group meetings with organised activities including exercise sessions, massages, training, trips and outings, and regular walks etc. to improve carer morale and mental health.
- Focus groups to ensure we hear carer’s voices and understand their needs.
Milan is delighted as from January 2021 to be working in partnership with the Carewell partnership in collaboration with lead partners, VOCAL. An organisation with much expertise and passion for carers rights and ensuring carers are recognised and have the right support mechanism in place.
