Ripple Buddies is a peer mentoring project which builds positive relationships between children and young people. Ripple Buddies pairs young volunteer ‘buddies’ aged 14-19 with local children who are in primary school or S1. The project is based on building strong individual relationships between the children and their positive peer mentors. The buddies provide 1:1 attention, advice, and fun to the children. Ripple Buddies provides a safe and secure space for children to play and build friendships away from the external pressures of home and school life.
The volunteers are provided with support and training and find it an extremely fun and rewarding project to be a part of! “I think Ripple Buddies is fun and when I’m stressed out it makes me happier” A child who attends Ripple Buddies “I think Ripple Buddies is an amazing experience, it is great to make a difference in someone’s life and see how you can help change the local community” A young person who volunteers as a Buddy “Ripple Buddies has made [my child] feel happier to talk about things that have been bothering her. Her confidence has improved…The staff and buddies are so kind and helpful. The bond the kids get with their buddies is wonderful” Parent of a child who attends Ripple Buddies.
