Description

Southside Community Centre offers a host of activities and services for local people of all ages and abilities. In addition, Arthur’s Café serves excellent home-cooked food and the Centre provides a warm and friendly place for people to meet and relax.

The Centre programme boasts a wide range of learning and leisure activities meeting the needs of all ages and abilities and we are always looking for new members and welcome any ideas for developing the Centre’s programme.

The Centre offers two general purpose meeting/activity rooms, a large hall, café and a fully equipped kitchen plus disabled access to all floors via a lift.

The Centre operates as a registered charity managed by a Board of Trustees.

The Centre opened in December 1986, following a long campaign by the local community to have a community centre right in the heart of their area. Being in a conservation area, the building is listed. South Side Community Centre is owned and largely funded by the City of Edinburgh Council who lease the premises to the community association that is run by the Centre’s management committee. The committee is also responsible for running a hugely successful café.

Staff in the Centre are mainly employees of the Council but, as the Management Committee has developed and extended the programme, they employ their own staff for the café and as activity leaders in several Centre groups.
