Cottage Dementia Club
The Cottage is one of the cosiest, friendliest, loveliest day clubs that cares for people with dementia in Scotland. The Cottage runs from our homely, converted stable in substantial grounds in Portobello.
The Cottage offers a registered day care service for people who are 65 years or over with dementia. We can accommodate up to 10 people each day. We welcome enquiries from clients from ethnic minorities. Our Cottage Dementia Club offers a safe and friendly place for those who enjoy company, who may feel isolated and alone and want to get out of the house for a day and to do something different. The Cottage Dementia Club offers opportunities for to socialise and to have fun through a variety of activities held each day. From time to time we also provide outings and other special activities for which we may ask a small extra charge in order to cover the cost.
Include quizzes, board games, music & movement, reminiscence, craft activities, singing etc.
There’s tea and toast on arrival.Then a tasty and nutritious two course lunch provided and we always round the day off with a cup of tea.
We can collect you from your home between 9.15am and 10.15am and take you back between 3pm and 4pm. Or you can make your own travel arrangements, if you live outside our catchment area. Alternatively, you can make your own way to us or travel with your carer.
Our catchment area is EH7 / EH8 / EH15.
Portobello, Joppa, Craigentinny, Durhams, Lochend, Northfield, Willowbrae, Restalrig.
Relatives/Carers have the choice to attend meetings to discuss care issues relating to their relative, including six monthly reviews, risk assessments or just to pop in for a chat.
HOW DO YOU JOIN?
There are two ways you can join:
Places can be arranged to suit a range of ages. No referral is necessary. You may wish to access this service using Self Directed Support (SDS), if you are in receipt of Direct Payments.
Access a subsidised place
Places are available for anyone aged 65 plus. While a significant proportion of the cost of the service is subsidised by the City of Edinburgh Council, you pay a monthly mandatory contribution, set by the City of Edinburgh Council, which is reviewed annually.

We are now accepting self referrals. Please use the form at https://www.lifecare-edinburgh.org.uk/services/dementia-care/the-cottage to contact us directly to make a referral. You can do this if you are a carer, or individual wishing to join. Or it can be arranged by social services, health professionals or families on your behalf.
