Normal service details...

Working in partnership with Sighthill Green and Whinpark GP practices, Health All Round is now running Lifestyle Management courses for people experiencing chronic pain.

Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts longer than 3 months in spite of medications or treatments. Typically, after 12 weeks most people start feeling better. However, sometimes the pain persists for longer or appears without any injury. Things that work for acute pain such as medication, rest, heat, cold etc. are generally less successful for the treatment of chronic pain. Experiencing pain for a long time can affect many areas of your life: family; friendships; ability to work or engage in social activities, and it adds stress to everyday life.

These six-week courses, coupled with one to one support from the Action for Pain coordinator will help you to develop effective coping strategies for living with chronic pain. They will help you to understand the nature of chronic pain and the importance of:

- Lifestyle factors for managing chronic pain
- Understanding your medication and how it may affect you
- Developing self-compassion and acceptance
- Developing a sense of control

During the course you will have an opportunity to meet with others who are also struggling with chronic pain – an experience that many people find helpful and reassuring. Knowing that you are not alone, that there are other people out there who truly understand what you are going through.

You will have time and opportunity to explore, in a supported way, how pain is affecting you and your life and by small steps, start to improve it. We will explore how to make the most of your better days, respond more calmly to the difficult days and build your capacity and confidence for a healthier and happier life.

This service provides support in both English and Polish.
